Rod McLean - Registered Acupuncturist at Young Health Management in Duncan BC

Registered Acupuncturist

Rod McLean (He/Him) is an Indigenous Registered Acupuncturist who understands the impact of stress, trauma, genetics and culture on human health. With his skills, he seeks to help each client obtain balance and experience the full potential of health in their lives.

Rod’s diverse interests led him on a long and winding road, educationally. From philosophy to photojournalism, anthropology to archaeology, Rod’s curiosity about the human condition and what makes people and cultures healthy, beautiful and sustainable has been the guiding question.

When Rod found the system of Chinese Medicine, he landed in the path of deeper discovery that combines the benefits of Modern Western Medicine and physiology studies and research with the ancient Chinese Indigenous medicine of harmony and balance.

The mix of settler and Indigenous influences that Rod grew up in inspired the questions that have led him to Traditional Chinese Medicine. The personal, ancestral and community traumas that he was influenced by are harmonized and healed by attending to the well being of the body, mind and spirit in a focused and systematic way.

Rod is familiar with the challenge of repairing from sports injuries, as he has enjoyed the seasonal sports of soccer and hockey and the ski hill for most of his life. He personally practices the aspects of Chinese Medicine that keep his own body, mind and spirit in balance as he gratefully lives in the Cowichan Valley. He spends his time outdoors, fishing, making photos and adventuring with his wife, daughter, family and friends.

Rod went to the University of Victoria for his bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Archaeology. He went to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology for his photojournalism diploma. And he went to the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences in Nelson, for his diploma in Chinese Medicine.
